Joan Augustyn has been a part of Allegro Ballroom, formerly Louis & Company, for 8 years and competes Pro-Am in all American Bronze styles and American Silver Smooth.
She placed first with her amateur partner in the Gentleman’s Silver Smooth Scholarship at the First Coast Classic in 2015 and is looking forward to competing and performing in the Great Gatsby Gala and Heart of America in 2016.
Outside of ballroom dancing, Joan has her doctorate in occupational therapy (OTD) from KU Medical Center. She is a full-time assistant clinical professor at KU Medical Center for the occupational therapy education department. She also works as an occupational therapist at Overland Park Regional Medical center and at an Alzheimer’s care unit, Garden Terrace of Overland Park.
Joan hopes to create programs that offer dance lessons to the younger crowd as well as people with all kinds of different abilities.
Fun fact: Joan loves Peru and visits yearly. This year will be her 3rd trip to Peru with a therapy team to serve and support the infant/toddler team at the Ann Sullivan Center of Peru (CASP).
